Peugeot 306 Cabriolet. AUCTION FINISHED

Designed by Pininfarina, in the tradition of Peugeot coupes and convertibles, the 306 Cabriolet was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1993. With slightly more than 75,000 units, this elegant, well-designed and efficient car with no less than 5 engines will even win the title of most beautiful convertible of the year in 1994 and convertible of the year at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998! Needless to say, it is a true collector in the making.

The auction we offer you here was produced and registered in March 2002. It is therefore one of the very last examples produced, equipped with the 1.6L 100hp, the last engine still available since 2001 and the imminent arrival of the Peugeot 307.

Pininfarina and Peugeot have produced some mighty stylish creations in the past, but arguably none as stunning as the 306 Cabriolet. After all, if image and rarity aren't among your priorities in buying an affordable cabrio, the other main consideration is likely to be that of affordable practicality. Realistically, since you'll be spending more time with the top up than down, the ease of operation of the hood mechanism and both sound and noise insulation need to be excellent.
In this 306 Cabrio, they are - and the convertible operation is simplicity itself.

Thanks to the standard electric mechanism, you simply unclip, push the button and sit back to enjoy the spectacle as the metal cover behind you rises to swallow the hood, then falls cleanly on top of it. It may be worth ringing a few vendors to try to find a car with the optional Pininfarina-styled hard top. This is lined to reduce noise intrusion, has a heated glass rear window and is finished in the same body colour as the car.
It can be removed easily for simple storage, transforming your 306 back from Coupe to Cabriolet at a stroke.

This Peugeot 306 Cabriolet is a future classic in the making. Under the hood is a 1.6 litre 100 bhp engine, whilst not the quickest in the world it’s still sprightly for its age and mileage. This is a 1 owner from new cars with only 55,000 miles with a great history to back up its condition.

This UK-market example was initially registered in March 2002. The current vendor has owned and enjoyed this Peugeot since new and the car is now registered into trade. To find a good one of these in this condition and with such low owners and mileage is a unique thing indeed.

Resplendent in Moonstone Blue metallic, this 306 Cabriolet is generally in good cosmetic condition. There are small scratches in the boot area. Some minor bubbling is also apparent under the paintwork around the rear screen.

The front end is largely free of stone chipping, with only minor scuffs and marks visible on the front bumper, its trim and the passenger-side mirror. The rear bumper shows signs of remedial works, with minor cracking visible in its finish. Cracks in the paintwork are also visible above the driver’s side passenger window, but overall the finish is sound given the car’s age.

The 306 retains its original 15-inch alloy wheels, which have some minor chips and grazes around the rims and are finished with 195/55/15 tyres which are showing plenty of tread all around.

Inside, the unfussy cabin in this 306 remains in largely original condition. The plastic dashboard and its switchgear have resisted cracking or discolouration, while the steering wheel and gear knob are also free of substantial wear. The model-specific interior seats are also free of tears or rips to their upholstery, and just show minor wear and creasing throughout.
